South Africa v New Zealand, 2005-06

South Africa v New Zealand, 2005-06

15-Apr-2006

At Port Elizabeth, October 30, 2005. South Africa won by four wickets. Toss: South Africa.
South Africa clinched the series with their 12th consecutive one-day international victory, propelled over the line by Kemp and Pollock, who came together with 42 needed from five overs.
Kemp finished the match by hitting Bond for his second six - over the three-storey media centre - and the winning four from the first two balls of the final over. Earlier, New Zealand again lost wickets to the new ball before Fleming and Styris lifted them towards the respectability of 243.
Fleming was freakishly run out when a straight-drive by Styris ricocheted off bowler Kemp's ankle and into the stumps at the non-striker's end. South Africa's top-scorer was Gibbs, who paced his innings well, facing 94 balls for a stylish 81. It was his last contribution to the series: after this match he and Boje were left out after declining to tour India without a promise of immunity from arrest in connection with the ongoing investigations into six-year-old match-fixing allegations.
Man of the Match: H. H. Gibbs.
