Victoria made a steady start to their mammoth chase for outright points against Western Australia at the Junction Oval today. The opener Matthew Elliott guided the Bushrangers to stumps with an unbeaten half-century as they reduced the deficit to 366 for the loss of Graeme Rummans.
Chris Rogers helped Western Australia extend their lead to 400 with an entertaining century, which included 22 fours, and Marcus North also chipped in with 57. Rogers, the left-handed opener, has been rated a future Test player and scored his runs in front of Trevor Hohns, the chairman of selectors.
Victoria looked to Ian Harvey for three break-throughs before Western Australia declared, leaving the home side with a target of 455, the same total they reached against New South Wales in January.
