It was the sixth over, and Bangalore were 35 for 1. Robin Uthappa hit a loose shot off Vernon Philander and the ball went high over the bowler. Charl Langveldt closed in from mid-off and got a hand, but lost balance, landed hard on his shoulder and the ball popped out. It was a lucky reprieve for Uthappa, who was on 19 at the time, and ended on 51.

The last four overs of the Bangalore innings were a run riot, with 61 runs being belted, mostly by Ross Taylor. Taylor finished with 53 off 24 balls, but not before smashing four fours and four sixes, to provide the late fillip that helped Bangalore finish on 180.

In what was perhaps a decisive moment in the game, Anil Kumble dropped a sharp return catch off a set JP Duminy in the 18th over of the chase. A full delivery was struck back hard towards Kumble and he failed to react in time while diving to his left. Duminy anchored the chase to seal a thrilling win, but his dismissal would well have swung the game Bangalore's way.
