Pakistan v New Zealand

15-Apr-2004

At Lahore, December 1, 2003 (day/night). Pakistan won by 124 runs. Toss: Pakistan. One-day international debut: T. K. Canning.
Straight, quick, full-pitched bowling by Mohammad Sami - and some co-operative batting by the New Zealand tail - gave the match a spectacular conclusion. But, in truth, it was all over even before Sami sent stumps cartwheeling, with New Zealand 155 for five and needing to score at a run and a half a ball for their last 14 overs. As it turned out, they managed to reach only 157, as Sami took five wickets, four of them bowled, in just 12 balls. Earlier, Pakistan's batsmen made light of the absence of Inzamam-ul-Haq with a sore throat. Imran Farhat reached his first oneday fifty, Salim Elahi made 70 at a run a ball in his first appearance for 24 one-day internationals and Abdul Razzaq faced just 16 deliveries for his unbeaten 42. Only Vettori troubled the batsmen.
Man of the Match: Mohammad Sami.
