New Zealand v Sri Lanka, Champions Trophy, Group B, Jo'burg

27-Sep-2009
If anything, Jesse Ryder's injury in the fifth over made life miserable for Sri Lanka as even the pretence of running between the wickets was dropped. From seven off seven balls Ryder raced to 38 from 21 with a series of astounding shots, each played with little foot movement.
Kumar Sangakkara missed an easy run out of Daniel Vettori in the 33rd over. He failed to collect he ball and when he broke the stumps, the ball popped out of his gloves. That reprieve added to the pressure being released on New Zealand.
Sri Lanka's openers threw away a terrific start, and after the innings changed its complexion. Sanath Jayasuriya started the rot by advancing to a short ball and in the next over Tillakaratne Dilshan top-edged to the deep.
