New Zealand v Sri Lanka, 2000-01

At Sharjah, April 10 (day/night)

15-Apr-2002
At Sharjah, April 10 (day/night). Sri Lanka won by 106 runs. Toss: Sri Lanka. International debut: A. R. Adams.
Jayasuriya broke his own one-day international record of 29 runs off a single over when he smashed Harris for four sixes, a four and a two. Harris shared the record for the most expensive over at this level with Jayasuriya's earlier victim, Aamir Sohail of Pakistan, whose total of 30 conceded at Singapore in 1996 included a wide. The fourth six of the over took Jayasuriya to his hundred; in all, he hit 107 in 116 balls, with three fours and six sixes, and added 184 in 37 overs with Jayawardene after Tuffey had extracted Atapattu and Sangakkara (promoted because Kaluwitharana had flown home when his mother died) in the first over of the match. Jayawardene scored 116 in 129 balls, hitting 13 fours. New Zealand's reply followed an opposite course. Openers Nevin and Sinclair hurried to 82 before Muralitharan separated them in the 16th over, but the last nine wickets mustered only 81 as the spinners took control.
Man of the Match: D. P. M. D. Jayawardene.
