Fast bowler Charl Langeveldt has been ruled out the Cape Cobras' Champions League match against the Otago Volts in Hyderabad on Saturday. Langeveldt injured himself attempting a catch from mid-on during the sixth over of Royal Challenger Bangalore's innings at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on Thursday, landing on the same shoulder for which he was operate on during the off season.
Chasing a top edge off Robin Uthappa's bat, he ran across and tumbled after getting a touch on the ball, landing hard on his left shoulder. Langeveldt lay on the ground in pain for a few minutes before he left the field; he played no part in the match, which the Cobras won by five wickets. "It appears to be a softish injury in the shoulder joint which should not require further surgery," said team doctor and manager Peter Sandell. "It should settle down in a couple of weeks."
The Cobras need to beat Otago, New Zealand's domestic Twenty20 champions, to move into the league stage of the tournament. After this match the Cobras will have a week off before their next match and Sandell said the team management would not take a decision before Monday. "We would love Charl to be able to play in the rest of the tournament but the problem is that it is his bowling arm and there is also a question of him being bowling fit," he said.
Langeveldt has been successful in domestic cricket of late, picking up regular wickets for the Cobras. He also was part of the Kolkata Knight Riders team for the second edition of the IPL held in South Africa this year. Langeveldt had been named in South Africa's provisional 20-member squad for the Champions Trophy, marking his comeback to international cricket after more than a year.
