Turning Points

Kolkata v Punjab, IPL 2010, Kolkata

04-Apr-2010
1. Sourav Ganguly and Chris Gayle put on a brisk opening stand, scoring 56 at Eden Gardens. Ganguly is the dominant partner but Gayle is biding his time.
2. Gayle hits four consecutive sixes in the 13th over, bowled by Ravi Bopara, which yields 33 runs in all. It's the most expensive over in the IPL and Kolkata surge from 89 to 122.
3. Kolkata are on top but their defence of 200 begins poorly. Murali Kartik mis-fields the first ball at point. Mahela Jayawardene gets on strike and cuts his first ball for four.
4. Jayawardene is on 51 off 30 balls when he gives Kolkata a chance in the 10th over. Kartik drops it at short third man. Jayawardene scores 15 runs off the next over and Kolkata wilt.
5. Kolkata's hopes are extinguished when Yuvraj Singh, with Punjab needing 32 off 24 balls, hits Kartik for a four and two sixes in the 17th over.
