India v Sri Lanka, 1st Test, Ahmedabad, 5th day

20-Nov-2009
Gautam Gambhir grafted away against Sri Lanka with 114, leading India's attempt to save the Ahmedabad Test and succeeding. He struck 13 boundaries in his determined innings and added 40 with nightwatchman Amit Mishra and a further 66 with Sachin Tendulkar.
When Gambhir fell, caught by Dammika Prasad off Rangana Herath, Sri Lanka would have sniffed a chance. There was still plenty of time left before stumps and India were still trailing, but the visitors didn't taste any success from then on.
Sachin Tendulkar's 43rd Test century saw India to a comfortable draw. During his innings, he also went past 30,000 runs in international cricket and added an unbeaten 137 runs for the fifth wicket with VVS Laxman to seal the draw.
