India v South Africa, 2010

Wisden's report of India v South Africa, 3rd ODI, 2010

15-Apr-2010
At Ahmedabad, February 27, 2010 (day/night). South Africa won by 90 runs. Toss: South Africa. One-day international debuts: A. Mithun, M. Vijay.
De Villiers's furious 58-ball century, the seventh-fastest in one-day internationals - only Boucher, in 44 balls against Zimbabwe in 2006-07, had made a quicker one for South Africa - led to a flurry of runs in the closing overs of the innings. With Kallis improvising elegantly in the later stages of his own century (his last 74 came from 48 balls) the final five overs produced 78 runs as India's inexperienced attack struggled. The visitors had rectified their error in the first one-dayer, and opened with Amla, whose inspired form continued; he and the dazzling Bosman, who hit four sixes, piled on 113 in 15.4 overs. Facing such a huge target, India's batsmen plodded along. Raina's clean hitting in the batting powerplay was the only real threat to the South Africans, who were hungry for victory after their pride had been grievously wounded at Gwalior.
Man of the Match: A. B. de Villiers.
Man of the Series: S. R. Tendulkar.
