At Sharjah, October 15. Pakistan won by six wickets. Toss: India. The heat, the noise of the partisans, and a pitch full of runs contributed to an occasion equal to the rivalry between these protagonists. Once again, albeit less dramatically, Pakistan's hero was Wasim Akram, who took his 100th one-day international wicket when he dismissed Amarnath. Bowling fast and obtaining unexpected bounce, he checked India after Srikkanth (69 balls), Sidhu (117 balls) and Amarnath had threatened to make Pakistan pay for their fielding lapses. Sidhu hit eight fours and a six in his first one-day international hundred, and with Amarnath he added 161 off 145 balls. Pakistan were given a good start with 99 coming in twenty overs from Shoaib and Shahid Saeed, the latter needing just 59 balls for 50 in his second one-day international. Akram, promoted to No. 3, then struck four sixes and a four in 37 off 22 balls and prepared the way for Salim Malik's sublime 68 not out from 58 balls. Pakistan needed 40 off the last six overs and won with eight balls to spare.
