ICC President pays tribute to Trevor Henry

International Cricket Council (ICC) President Ehsan Mani today paid tribute to Trevor Henry, the distinguished Irish international umpire, who has passed away at the age of 51.

Mr Mani said: "I am deeply saddened to hear of Trevor's death and I would like to pass on sincere condolences on behalf of everyone at the ICC to his wife, family and friends.

"Trevor was a highly respected umpire who showed tremendous commitment and skill to rise to the very top of his profession.

"He was one of only 10 umpires selected for the inaugural ICC Associates and Affiliates Umpires Panel after performing well at the ICC World Cup Qualifying Series event in Malaysia in 2005.

"His good performances in important matches in the ICC Trophy and ICC Intercontinental Cup then earned him an invitation to officiate at the ICC U/19 Cricket World Cup currently taking place in Sri Lanka.

"This was the first time that we had selected non-Full Member umpires to officiate in this prestigious event on merit and this should be a source of great pride for all those that were close to Trevor. It is very sad that illness prevented him from standing in the event but it is the contributions of people like Trevor that underpin the success of the sport and help make cricket a truly international game.

"He was an easy-going likeable man and will be sorely missed throughout the wider cricket community."

A minute's silence will be observed by teams and officials ahead of tomorrow's ICC U/19 Cricket World Cup match between Ireland and England in Colombo as a mark of respect.

Trevor's distinguished umpiring career included over a decade of officiating in international matches. As well as ICC events, he stood in matches between Ireland and Australia, South Africa and Zimbabwe.
