England's biggest one-day victory by wickets against Australia owed much to winning the toss - even though cricket's first supersub, Solanki, never batted. Australia were inserted in overcast conditions, whereas England replied as the pitch eased in the sunshine. Gilchrist and Hayden put on 62 against lively new-ball bowling before falling in successive overs; later, Collingwood took four wickets, including three in 14 balls. It was during that spell that Solanki replaced Simon Jones in the field, after 31 overs with the score 116 for four. Hussey defiantly pushed it past 200. Trescothick then compiled his tenth one-day international hundred - and first against Australia at any level - after being caught off a Lee no-ball on five. He shared century stands with Strauss and Vaughan, who looked in his best form of the season so far. Australia's replacement player, Hogg, dismissed Strauss with his third delivery; confusingly, the man he officially replaced, Hayden, was still on the field, having taken over as an ordinary substitute from Hogg, who was already on for the injured Watson. In both innings, the powerplays were completed by the 20th over. The match was overshadowed by news of terrorist bombings that killed 56 people on London's public transport system in the morning rush hour.
