Deccan Chargers v Trinidad and Tobago, Group A, Champions League, Hyderabad

14-Oct-2009
When Trinidad and Tobago were 92 for 5, it had appeared Deccan Chargers would be able to restrict them to a paltry total but the partnership between Kieron Pollard and Denesh Ramdin gave the innings a much-needed fillip. Ramdin played the patient hand, working it around for singles while Pollard was ruthless, launching four sixes in a 14-ball 31 to take his team to a total that eventually proved adequate.
Pollard was again in action when he plucked a brilliant catch off Adam Gilchrist in the 12th over of the Deccan chase. Gilchrist was well set with a half-century and sensed an opportunity when Lendl Simmons bowled one short. He pulled it powerfully wide of deep square leg, but Pollard ran paces to his left, dived full length and pulled off a stunning catch to bring T&T back into the game.
With eight needed off the last over and just three wickets in hand, Deccan were slight favourites to win. But Dwayne Bravo bowled a gem of an over, conceded just four runs to hand his team a thrilling win and ensure Deccan were knocked out of the competition. His accuracy was consistent and so was his length as he bowled it in the blockhole, giving little opportunity for the batsmen to strike him for runs. As result, Deccan were only able to muster four and fell three short.
