Confident Hong Kong storm into semi-finals after 92-run victory over Malaysia

A confident Hong Kong team continued their unbeaten run at the ACC Women's Twenty20 Championships 2009 with a resounding 92-run victory over hosts Malaysia.

Hong Kong lost the toss for the first time and were put into bat at the Royal Selangor Club. Hong Kong again got off to a positive start with openers Keenu Gill and Neisha Pratt running positively between the wickets and putting the local side under pressure. The opening partnership put on over a hundred runs before Keenu Gill was bowled for 44. Connie Wong, coming in at number 3, again continued to punish the loose ball and she finished with an unbeaten 43 from only 27 balls. Anchoring the Hong Kong innings was again captain Neisha Pratt who made 55 from 43 balls and ensured Malaysia were going to be chasing a huge total. Hong Kong's final total was 160-1 from their 20 overs. For her efforts, Neisha picked up her 2nd player of the match award in the tournament.

In reply the first Malaysian wickets fell early and Malaysia were soon struggling at 3 for 15. Their middle order tried to keep the momentum going but with such a huge total but with Betty Chan and Ishtiaa Gidwani bowling tightly the task proved to be too large for the home team. The Malaysian Women were finally bowled out for 68 with Betty Chan picking up 4 wickets for just 8 runs from her 4 over spell.

With this win the Hong Kong team will take on beaten finalists from 2007, Nepal, in the semi final on Friday morning.
