Cricket Australia today announced that it had accepted a Western Australian Cricket Association (WACA) recommendation to appoint former Australian fast bowler Jo Angel as captain of the Chairman's XI for the match against Zimbabwe at Lilac Hill on Wednesday 1 October.
Cricket Australia Chairman Bob Merriman said Angel was a suitable choice as captain for the traditional fixture.
"Jo is a highly respected player throughout Australia and has been a great role model during his distinguished career," Mr Merriman said.
"We are pleased that he has been appointed captain of this traditional match, which again promises to be a wonderful day for cricket in Western Australia."
Angel, who played four Tests and three one-day internationals for Australia, has been one of Western Australia's standout domestic performers over the last decade.
In 101 domestic first-class appearances, Angel is Western Australia's all-time leading wicket-taker with 407 scalps, and only the second bowler behind the legendary Clarrie Grimmett to claim 400 Sheffield Shield/Pura Cup wickets.
The annual match will this year honour Australia's three World Cup winning teams.
Bruce Reid, Geoff Marsh and Michael Veletta have been invited from the 1987 side, while Tom Moody, Adam Gilchrist and Brendon Julian will represent the 1999 team. Brad Hogg and Damien Martyn will represent the 2003 squad.
The World Cup will be paraded at the ground along with the players in a pre-match motorcade.
Chairman's XI team: Jo Angel (captain), Ryan Campbell, Adam Gilchrist, Brad Hogg, Michael Hussey, Justin Langer, Geoff Marsh, Shaun Marsh, Damien Martyn, Colin Miller, Brad Williams, Peter Worthington.
