Nadine George made history when she became the first West Indian female player to strike a century, as she larruped 118 against Pakistan in 2004, five years after making her debut. Nicknamed Lion, her fierce batting has made her one to watch in the forthcoming World Cup in South Africa 2005. She gained inspiration from listening to cricket on the radio when Viv Richards, Michael Holding and Joel Garner were in their pomp.
She made a top score of 53 in West Indies' tour of India and Pakistan in 2004, and also chipped in with a few solid innings. A qualified open water diver, George is proficient at netball, volleyball and table tennis, too. She also plans to study law. For her brave contributions to women's cricket, she was awarded the MBE in November, 2005.
George captained the West Indies team on its tours of Europe and Sri Lanka, but she retired before the World Cup in Australia in March 2009.
