Profile

Pasan Wanasinghe is clearly a player to have suffered from playing for an unfashionable club. He has consistently performed over the last ten years in first class cricket. In recent years he has been playing for Galle CC for whom he has scored runs and taken wickets against the best in the country. However, despite his impressive record, the selectors have so far refused to give him the break he deserves. He bowls tidy medium pacers, which will not frighten many for pace, but will nevertheless cause problems due to an ability to move the ball through the air and subtly change the pace. He usually bats number three for Galle CC and does so in a responsible and determined manner. His selection for the Sri Lanka A tour follows his recommendation to Dav Whatmore by Champika Ramanayake. The national coach was believed to be highly impressed and Wanasinghe could well be in the squad for the New Zealand tour.(17.01.2001)
