Sujeewa de Silva, a left-arm swing bowler from the southern resort town of Beruwela, shot to prominence in the Premier Under 23 Trophy in 2000 when he broke the league record for the most wickets in a season. Although possessed with the precious ability to swing the ball late, he failed to catch the eye of the selectors until after Sri Lanka's tour of England, when he was picked to play two Tests against Bangladesh as the selectors rested senior bowlers. He had to wait nearly five years to play his next Test, coincidentally against Bangladesh. He later made it to the probables squad for the Champions Trophy.
