Paarl - The South African Women's Cricket Association annual Inter-Provincial tournament kicked off in the Boland region on Monday with wins for all the more fancied teams. Western Province and Free State however had to be content with a no result as bad weather put an end to any chance of an outcome.
Bowlers held the upper hand throughout the day with Western Province B bowlers P Scholtz (5/30) and W Austen (4/17) plus KwaZulu-Natal's H van der Berg (4/36) being the highest wicket takers. Although totals were low it was the extras column that nearly top scored in all the matches. An area where the lady bowlers will have to improve in is the number of wides and no-balls being sent down.
On the batting front the Gauteng opening batsman Kerri Lang was the first to pass the 50 mark with a well played 56 not out in the match against Easterns and H Lloyd the KwaZulu-Natal opener notching up 82. The highest total of the day coming from KwaZulu-Natal with 215/7 against Boland.
Results:
KwaZulu-Natal (215/7) beat Boland (181) by 34 runs.
Northerns (84/1) beat North West (81) by 9 wickets.
Gauteng (122/3) beat Easterns (119) by 7 wickets.
Western Province (15/0) no result against Free State (157/8).
Western Province `B' (80/3) beat Griqualand West (79) by 7 wickets.
Eastern Province (65/1) beat Border (94) by 9 wickets on the Duckworth/Lewis method.
