Vaughn van Jaarsveld is a hard-hitting middle-order batsman who has enjoyed considerable success in South Africa's Pro20 competition. He was tipped for national honours in all forms of the game, but became the latest player to turn his back on South African cricket and use the Kolpak route into the English county system. He might have signed with Somerset, already the home of a few fellow South Africans, but after impressing for Warwickshire second XI the club were quick to sign him up on a three-year deal. It didn't last, however. After pledging his allegiance to Warwickshire - and more importantly, England - he returned to South Africa, breaching his contract, and was released by a fuming Warwickshire at the end of 2007.
