A solid left-hand batsman and occasional offspinner, Sven Koenig played representative cricket for SA Schools in 1991 and went on to forge a career with Easterns, Gaetang and Western Province, and for three seasons from 2002 he played for Middlesex as a Kolpak player (he holds an Italian passport) with success, passing 1000 runs in all three summers. He retired in 2004 to concentrate on a career in banking in South Africa.
