The Delhi police has requested the South African government to allow it to question Dave Richardson, the ICC's general manager, and other South African players on the match-fixing scandal that broke in 2000.

"We have sent a Letter Rogatory to South African government requesting it to allow us to question a number of players including Richardson," Satyendra Garg, the Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime), told PTI. Richardson, the former South African wicketkeeper, played under Hansie Cronje, who was sentenced to a life ban after accepting complicity in match-fixing.

Richardson had testified before the King's Commission set up by the South African government to look into the match-fixing scandal. He was one of the players to have opposed Cronje's suggestion to throw an ODI in India.

The Delhi police, who had unearthed the match-fixing racket, had questioned Herschelle Gibbs, the South African opening batsman linked to the scandal, when he visited India for the Champions Trophy in October 2006. Nicky Boje, the former South African left-arm spinner who was in India to play in the Indian Cricket League was also was interrogated last month.
