Stuart Broad will be rested from England's remaining warm-up matches ahead of the limited-overs series against South Africa after jarring his bowling shoulder in England's 185-run victory against the Eagles at Bloemfontein on Friday.

Broad was sent for a precautionary scan which revealed no major damage but England's medical staff will continue to assess his shoulder and he won't be considered for Sunday's match against the Warriors or Tuesday's outing against South Africa A. He will receive further treatment ahead of the first Twenty20 international on Friday.

Broad left the field during the victory against the Eagles, having taken 2 for 28 in four overs, and woke up in further pain on Saturday morning as the team prepared to travel to Kimberley for their second warm-up match.

With Broad needing a couple of matches off it may leave England slightly thin in the pace-bowling ranks after Graham Onions missed the opening game with a stiff back. Tim Bresnan wasn't selected against the Eagles so will be the likely replacement for Broad.

Broad is being earmarked for a key all-round role during this tour following his impressive finish to the Ashes series. He is set to take the new-ball during the one-dayers, while his batting is becoming increasingly important in the Test arena after the departure of Andrew Flintoff.

"Stuart's a fantastic player who is on top of his game, but it creates an opportunity for somebody else to come in and fill a slot," said team-mate Eoin Morgan. "I'm backing whoever's in the squad to come in, prove themselves and do well."

Following Sunday's game England have one more warm-up fixture, against South Africa A at Bloemfontein, ahead of the first of two Twenty20 internationals next Friday.
