The Pakistan Cricket Board has approved the budget for the next fiscal year, 2010-11 though only seven out of 15 members of the Governing Board (GB) were present at the meeting. The budget was approved with an estimated income of Rs 2.6 billion and expenditure of Rs 2.3 billion.
"We are trying to complete the strength of the GB but it is a procedure, which needs time," PCB Chairman Ijaz Butt said in Lahore.
Two members of the GB, Javed Miandad and Wazir Ali Khoja, were not present due to reported differences with Butt, while another member, Naeem Gillani is currently in USA.
Butt added that the PCB couldn't grant salary increases to its staff because the board was still overstaffed despite downsizing the number of employees since he took over.
"Other cricket boards are running on smaller staffs. There is the example of the Board of Control for Cricket in India [BCCI] that has 29 employees while Cricket Australia has around 27 or so," Butt said.
"When I took charge, the staff strength of PCB was over 1,200 but it is around 600 now. Then 99.9% of the staff is already over-paid. This was also pointed out to me by some members of the GB and we have asked for guidelines from the Prime Minister in this respect."
