Akmal brothers appeal against fines

The Akmal brothers, Kamran and Umar, have lodged appeals against the fines imposed on them by the PCB in the aftermath of Pakistan's winless tour of Australia. The brothers were fined for their behaviour in the aftermath of the Sydney Test; Kamran was dropped by the board but insisted publicly he would be selected in the run-up to the third Test. Younger brother Umar was alleged to have feigned an injury to not play the Test in protest, though he did eventually play. Kamran has been fined Rs 3 million, Umar Rs 2 million and the pair are on probation for six months.

The Akmals were among seven players penalised by the PCB, for various reasons; Younis Khan and Mohammad Yousuf were banned indefinitely, Shoaib Malik and Naved-ul-Hasan Rana were banned for a year, while Shahid Afridi, like the Akmals, was fined and placed on probation.

"We have received their appeals in person and now it will be forwarded to an appellate tribunal," Pakistan Cricket Board's legal adviser Taffazul Rizvi told AP. Rizvi said that the deadline for the remaining five players to file appeals was April 16.

The three-member appellate tribunal comprises two retired Supreme Court judges, Munir Sheikh and Jamshed Ali Shah, and a former high court judge Irfan Qadir.
