PCB invites fresh blood basic Umpiring Course

The newly set up National Umpiring Council, with a view to inducting qualified new umpires, is holding a 9-day basic course for the new umpires at Lahore from July 29 to August 6, 2001.

In line with the charter assigned to NUC by the PCB, the course will be conducted by a highly qualified faculty comprising of veteran former test umpires Mahboob Shah and Said Shah, while written tests and results will be the responsibility of Mian Aslam. They will also be assisted by former test umpires Khalid Aziz, Javed Akhtar and Khizer Hayat to impart knowledge to trainees on the subject, particularly the technique of Cricket Umpiring, playing conditions and dealing with the changed situations.

The interviews for the candidates to join the basic course for new umpires will be held simultaneously at Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar and Quetta on July 25, 2001 by Mahboob Shah, Khalid Aziz, Said Shah and Khizer Hayat, respectively. In addition to Cricket Associations offices, the application forms will also be available at National Stadium (Karachi), Arbab Niaz Stadium (Peshawar) and Bugti Stadium (Quetta). Candidates will have to fill the forms and report in person for the interviews.

The eligibility for the applicants is to be at least intermediate, umpiring experience preferable, age between 25-50, medically fit and having stopped playing competitive cricket i.e. PCB Tournaments, two year prior to the application.

These umpires who have stood in the matches before and were not in the panel for PCB, are also advised to appear in the preliminary interviews for joining the basic training course.
