Auckland bowlers feast on Academy batsmen

Close Auckland 317-8d (T McIntosh 96, S Singe 57, C Pryor 40*, J Ryder 3-14, M Orchard 2-65, W Cornelius 2-72) and 115-1 (McIntosh 74, Singe 37*) beat New Zealand Academy Selection 116 (M Richardson 30, J Ryder 24, K Walmsley 3-37, A Adams 2-16, C Pryor 2-19) on the first innings.

Auckland's attack proved too good for the New Zealand Academy Selection at Lincoln Green yesterday when recording a resounding first innings win in their two-day game. The Academy were dismissed for a paltry 116, 201 runs behind Auckland.

Kerry Walmsley, the fast-medium bowler, now back in the Auckland camp after a stint with Otago, did the early damage when having Mark Orchard and James Hill in successive overs to leave the Selection side at 28 for 2. Mark Richardson and Neil Broom attempted to regain the initiative but just after the morning drinks break, Andre Adams had Broom's wicket, and Craig Pryor was able to remove Richardson, whose 30 would be the top score of the innings. Peter Fulton padded up to Sam Whiteman and paid the price when leg before wicket.

At 86 for 7, it took some bold lower-order hitting by Jesse Ryder, who scored 24, to get the Selection over the 100 mark. Walmsley finished with the best figures of 3 for 37 while Adams took 2 for 16 and Pryor 2 for 19.

Auckland batted again, with McIntosh and Singe repeating their century stand of the first innings by batting through to 115 before McIntosh was dismissed at 115, out to the bowling of Richardson for 74.
