Danish Kaneria will miss the start of the county season with Essex after the PCB confirmed he will instead take part in a domestic tournament in Pakistan.
Kaneria is likely to play a key role in a busy summer of international cricket for Pakistan, with two Tests against Australia scheduled for Lord's and Headingley before a four-Test series against England. The PCB want to use the RBS Pentangular Cup in Pakistan as practice, which will take place between April 17 and 27 and involves teams from five Pakistan Provinces.
It means Kaneria will not arrive in the UK until April 29 but David East, the Essex chief executive, accepted the importance of the event. "We were originally hoping to have Danish available for our first game on Friday 9th April and the delay in his arrival is obviously disappointing," he said.
"We understand that this competition will help inform the decisions of the PCB prior to their tour of England and that it is viewed as an important opportunity for all Test and ODI cricketers in Pakistan to impress the selectors. Danish is of course an important member of our side, but we must respect the primacy of the PCB and Danish's wish to be part of this event".
