| Under 17 Asia Cup Cricket Tournament [13.04.2004]
Round one of the Under 17 Asia Cup Cricket Tournament starts today as Hong Kong plays the first of their three one day matches scheduled over the next week. The tournament has attracted 20 of Asia's finest cricket teams to India where 16 of them will compete to face the four test playing teams, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in the second round next week.
The Hong Kong team, captained by Dheeraj Daswani, will start their challenge in Chennai today against Bhutan before playing Saudi Arabia tomorrow and the Maldives on the Friday. Qualification will see Hong Kong face Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in the second round of the tournament to be held at Vizag on the 19 th of January.
Also beginning their challenges tomorrow are Malaysia, who play Nepal at Vizag in group A, The UAE, who will face Afghanistan, Kuwait who play Oman, both from group B as well as Singapore and Iran who will see each other at Bangalore in their group C match.
The tournament is important to the development of cricket in Hong Kong as it offers our younger players the chance to compete against some of the world's best teams and gain invaluable experience.
