All eyes turn to Galle after win in Colombo

It is a fickle old game! You just never know what is around the corner. One minute a player can be on top of the world, the next he is wondering where his next opportunity is coming from. Jason Gillespie and Steve Waugh are obvious examples so far this tour while Scotty Muller experienced a similar misfortune today. After taking five wickets in his first game for Australia yesterday, he spent this afternoon in a hospital ward having the webbing between his right thumb and forefinger stitched back into one piece.

Diving for a well-struck return catch off his own bowling, the ball didn't quite reach its more preferred target, instead tearing the webbing on his bowling hand. While he is managing a brave face he is obviously disappointed at the prospect of not being able to bowl for at least three or four days. Only 24 hours ago he was feeling happy and confident with his debut performance; now he will have to bide his time as his body starts the process of recovery.

Despite the injury to our latest fast bowler, we had an excellent day in the field wrapping up our practice match with three hours to spare. Damien Fleming bowled superbly. He looks certain to replace 'Dizzy' Gillespie as Glenn McGrath's new ball partner in the second Test starting on Wednesday. With part-time, but underrated bowler, Ricky 'Punter' and Colin Miller and 'Warney' contributing with the remaining wickets, we had the perfect preparation for the second Test. Although it has been very hot and draining over the past three days, I don't think we could have written a better script leading into the next Test. A Test that we need to win! All the batsmen enjoyed valuable time in the middle, while our bowlers gained a superior workout than any net session could offer.

Every player in the squad understands the importance of the upcoming Test in Galle. With no margin for error, we know that we have to play our best cricket to equalise this series. We also realise that if we play to our potential we will win the match and keep the pressure on the talented and enthusiastic Sri Lankan cricket team.
