Day three, first Test versus India

As a batsman there is nothing worse than getting out just before stumps. Not only is it disappointing for the batsman involved but it also puts the team under unwelcome pressure. This in mind I was as dark as an African night sky when Anil Kumble got one of his fast leg-spinners to bounce viciously with only eight balls remaining on day three of this first Test against India. Out for 38 and surely leaving behind a big score on one of my favourite cricket grounds in the world.

Photograph courtesy of Jack Atley/AllSport Talking of leg-spinners, and our lovable rogue bowled as well as I have seen since his major shoulder operation. He was fizzing the ball today like he used to in his glory days. It almost looks as though he his growing in confidence with every innings as he storms towards Dennis Lillee's wicket-taking record of 355 test poles. While he has been bowling consistently since his operation, 'Warney' has been getting that extra spin this summer which has made him the greatest bowler of this era. With Warney bowling like a magician and Glenn McGrath at his best we are always going to be tough to beat for any opposition.

Tomorrow we will be looking to bat the visitors out of the game before throwing everything at them in the afternoon. Admittedly we are in a very strong position in this game but will take nothing for granted until the last wicket is taken. Any team who has Sachin Tendulakar leading the way can never be taken lightly so there is still plenty of work to be done in the next two days.
