The Electronic Telegraph Warm-up match: Glamorgan v Australia
The Electronic Telegraph - 8 May 1999

Waugh kicks heels in rain

Steve Waugh, staring out at the rain in Cardiff yesterday, echoed South African captain Hansie Cronje's thoughts of 24 hours earlier when he expressed disappointment that a second day had not been allotted for World Cup warm-up games.

``It would have made common sense,'' Waugh, the Australia captain, said. ``All the teams are here to play and there are an enormous number of young kids out there who would love to see us in action.''

The Australians got in only 10 overs in the field against Glamorgan before the weather broke. Waugh said: ``Naturally we're disappointed but it's the same for all the teams.''

Australia experimented by leaving Glenn McGrath in the field and opening the attack with Damien Fleming and Adam Dale. Both got wickets and were difficult to get away, Glamorgan reaching 21 for two before the abandonment came.
