Indian captain Sourav Ganguly has been fined 30 per cent of his match fee for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during his country's second Test match against South Africa.
Ganguly was found guilty of showing dissent by ICC Match Referee Jeff Crowe in a hearing after play concluded in Calcutta on Wednesday.
Ganguly was found to have breached Level 1.3 of the ICC Code which relates to "showing dissent at an umpire's decision by action or verbal abuse".
"As the Indian captain with greater responsibilities, the behavior is unacceptable in maintaining the standards of international cricket," said Mr Crowe.
All Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand and a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of a player's match fee.
The charge was brought by on-field umpires Simon Taufel and Daryl Harper, the third Umpire I Shivram and fourth umpire M.R. Singh.
ICC Match Referee Jeff Crowe reached his conclusion after a hearing attended by Sourav Ganguly, India coach John Wright and umpires Taufel, Harper, Shivram and Singh.
