ICC Staff, Stephanie Beltrame

Global information and communication company LG Electronics was today welcomed by the ICC as a platinum partner for cricket's night of nights next month - the ICC Awards presented by Hyundai.

To be staged at London's Alexandra Palace on the evening of Tuesday 7 September, the ICC Awards will honour and recognise international cricket's most outstanding players of the past 12 months.

ICC Chief Executive Malcolm Speed welcomed the involvement of LG - who are also an official ICC global partner for the ICC Champions Trophy - with the prestigious event.

"The ICC has a strong existing relationship with LG through its support of other ICC events including the ICC Cricket World Cup and ICC Champions Trophy tournaments," said Mr Speed.

"It is very encouraging that LG has responded so positively in seeking to further their association with international cricket through the ICC Awards, and to continue to build its profile with more high calibre cricket events.

"This is the first year that the ICC Awards have been staged and as they become an annual feature of the cricket calendar, we look forward to working with LG and our other partners to deliver this special event."

As a platinum partner, the LG logo will appear on all ICC Awards printed material and promotional coverage, while the company's expertise in electronics will be used on the night through the provision of large screen TV's on stage and around the main function room.

Mr Salil Kapoor, head of LG Electronics marketing in India, said: "LG Electronics is proud to be associated with the first ever official awards for world cricket.

"At LG, we feel strongly about the pursuit of excellence and about cricket, which is the passion of so many of our customers.

"To be part of the event that celebrates excellence in cricket was thus a natural choice, and another welcome addition to our cricket sponsorship portfolio," said Mr Kapoor.

LG joins with global car manufacturer Hyundai, which makes its first major foray into international cricket sponsorship by presenting the ICC Awards in association with the Federation of International Cricketers' Associations.

Eight awards will be presented on the night in two categories: individual and team awards.

The individual awards are:

  • Cricketer of the Year;
  • Test Player of the Year;
  • One-Day International Player of the Year;
  • Emerging Player of the Year; and
  • Umpire of the Year.

The team awards are:

  • Test Team of the Year;
  • One-Day International Team of the Year; and
  • Spirit of Cricket Award.
