Yasir's hundred takes Pakistan to seven-wicket win August 24, 2003
Pakistan 346 and 217 for 3 (Yasir 105, Hafeez 50) beat Bangladesh 288 and 274 by 7 wickets
Pakistan wrapped up a comfortable seven-wicket win off the last ball before lunch on the final day of the first Test at Karachi. The hero for Pakistan was, once again, Yasir Hameed. He scored a classy 105 - his second century on Test debut - to ensure that Pakistan had no hiccups chasing the victory target of 217. Starting the final day on 112 for 1, Pakistan coasted along untroubled on a pitch which afforded the bowlers no assistance. Yasir continued to stroke the ball with superb timing, while Mohammad Hafeez was more circumspect. He contributed 50 in the 134-run second-wicket stand, before being bowled by Mohammad Rafique (144 for 2). Yasir peppered 15 fours in his hundred, and as in the first innings, contributed more than 60% of the runs scored while he was at the crease. He became the fourth Pakistani batsman to score two centuries in a Test - emulating Hanif Mohammad, Javed Miandad and Wajahatullah Wasti - and only the second to achieve the feat on debut, after Lawrence Rowe. An unbeaten hundred was there for the taking, but a lapse in concentration did him in, as he chopped a ball from Rafique on to his stumps (170 for 3). Imzamam-ul-Haq and Yousuf Youhana knocked off the remaining runs without further alarms, but Bangladesh can take plenty of heart from this performance. Their lack of bowling strength told in the end, but Dav Whatmore's influence is already showing in the discipline and commitment that Bangladesh displayed in this Test. © Cricinfo
