Love reaches double ton against England

BRISBANE, Nov 3 AAP - Martin Love posted his fifth career double-century before Queensland's marathon innings ended against England in the three-day tour match at Allan Border Field.

Love made 250 in Queensland's total of 582, leaving England with 20 overs to face before stumps on the second day.

Bulls captain Jimmy Maher overlooked several opportunities to declare to keep England in the field for 158 overs as the tourists prepared for Thursday's first Test against Australia at the Gabba.

It was a flat track, and the ground is relatively small, but there was still plenty for England to worry about leading into the Ashes series.

The tourists only had themselves to blame for the long stint because Love was dropped four times in today's first session while Lee Carseldine (51) was also dropped before lunch when he had made 29.

Love was eventually trapped LBW by Matthew Hoggard, surviving for 542 minutes and facing 414 deliveries.

The 28-year-old wasn't the only batsman joining the fun as Ashley Noffke (30) and Nathan Hauritz (31) shared half-century stands with Love.

Noffke hit two sixes and was caught by a spectator, who put down his pie to take a well-judged catch on the eastern bank.

The English bowlers tallied plenty of overs, including Andrew Caddick (2-89 from 31 overs), Hoggard (1-112 from 29), Simon Jones (1-96 from 26) and Ashley Giles (3-124 from 40).
