Styris rewarded with TelstraClear Black Caps Test berth

State Northern Knights all-rounder Scott Styris has been named as the 14th man in the TelstraClear Black Caps Test squad that will compete in two Test matches against the West Indies.

Before the start of the tour the selectors named a 13-man Test squad with the intention of adding one more name once the form of some players had been assessed during the One-Day Internationals.

Chairman of selectors Sir Richard Hadlee said the multi-skilled Styris, who had previously been named in the Test side for the abandoned match in Pakistan, had performed with distinction with both the bat and the ball during the one day series against the West Indies.

"There has been some healthy competition for the final Test place and I guess you could say Scott has emerged from the pack to take the vacant all-rounder position," said Hadlee. "Scott has made scores of 85 and 64 not out and, in the last one-day match in Trinidad, he took 6-26 making him the first New Zealander to take six wickets in a one-day innings."

The TelstraClear Black Caps squad for the two Test matches against the West Indies is:
