Be'er Sheva sizzle to third straight win

Israel Cricket Association

June 11, 2002

Cricket in Be'er Sheva is not for the faint hearted, especially with the heat wave conditions which were experienced over the weekend. Playing in 42 degrees and taking water breaks every 5 overs, Be'er Sheva continued their excellent start to the seaon, defeating Young Ashdod by 83 runs in a ICA Division 1 fixture played on Saturday.

Having won the toss and deciding to bat, the home team amassed 278 all out in 44 overs. Avraham Benjamin top scored with 70, and there were half centuries from Shimshon Tzudekar (64) and Naor Gudker (52) as well. In reply Young Ashdod only managed 195 all out, with only Raymond Aston (40) posting a useful score. Yoel Tsriker took 3 wickets.

There are a number of mouth watering clashes scheduled for this weekend. On Friday, Netanya host Lions Lod at Hadar Yosef, whilst on Saturday defending champions Tel Aviv will be eager to bounce back from their recent defeat to Neve Yonatan when they travel to play Be'er Sheva. Ashdod, still looking for their first win of the season, play Young Ashdod and Ramle meet Neve Yonatan.
