England today called up the Somerset all-rounder Ian Blackwell to their ICC Trophy squad as a replacement for the injured Andrew Flintoff.
Blackwell, who is uncapped at international level, will join up with the rest of the squad when they fly out to Colombo on Thursday September 12.
The 24-year-old has been called into the squad after scoring over 800 First Class runs at an average of 39.38 this summer including three hundreds and taking 20 wickets at an average of 37.45.
He also currently averages over 50 in this summer's C and G Trophy competition and was named Man of the Match in Somerset's semi-final victory over Kent for a 53 ball innings of 86.
Chairman of Selectors, David Graveney, said: "Ian has had a very good season for Somerset and shown that he can play match-winning innings in a positive manner. This is now a good opportunity for him to show what he can do at a higher level. We also feel that his left arm spin bowling will give us extra options in a venue like Sri Lanka."
Blackwell is the second player to be called up as a replacement for the ICC Trophy after James Kirtley was drafted in to replace the injured Darren Gough earlier this month. (Revised squad below)
