International and County Cricket - Playing Condition changes for 2002

ECB Media Release

April 12, 2002

1. Time lost to weather in Test Matches can now be carried forward to subsequent days as well as being made up on the day itself. Only a maximum of one hour can be made up on any day, so scheduled hours for 2002 Test Matches are therefore 11am - 6.00pm, with potential to re-schedule to 7pm latest if relevant. Only if the over-rate is slow will play go later than 7pm.

2. One bouncer per over is allowed in One-Day Internationals

3. In ODIs, a bonus point is awarded to a team that wins the game while scoring at 1.25 x the rate of the opposition.

4. The new ball in Championship cricket will be taken after 90 overs (as opposed to the previous 100 overs)

5. Players called up for England may be replaced by a fully participating substitute (as previously). If the called-up player does not make the final Xl for England, then he may return to his County match and take over from the fully participating substitute.

6. With the agreement of both Captains, a wicket-keeper may be replaced by a specialist wicket-keeper in case of illness or injury. If the Captains disagree, then the Law applies - the replacement must come from the original Xl.

7. In line with the change made by ICC with respect to One-Day Internationals, one bouncer per over shall be permitted in all one-day competitions.

8. The free-hit for a front-foot No Ball regulation that is in place in the NUL shall be extended to the C&G Trophy and B&H Cup competitions.

Cricket Balls

The following balls shall be used in the respective competitions:

County Championship and Test Matches Duke Red
Norwich Union League and One-Day Internationals Kookaburra White
Benson & Hedges Cup Readers Red
Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy Duke Red
Second XI Championship Any licensed ball
Second XI Trophy Machine stitched Kookaburra Red
