The Butani Cup

Press Release

November 8, 2001

Even with two million dollars worth of prize money up for grabs at the Hong Kong Cricket Sixes, there will be more at stake. The participating countries will be battling it out for the coveted Butani Cup.

The Hong Kong Cricket Association is honouring Mr. Papu Butani for founding and creating the Hong Kong Cricket Sixes, and for his outstanding contribution and commitment to Hong Kong Cricket, by naming the Cup after him.

This unique and majestic cup was created by Butani Jewellery and took one month to design, and fifteen craftsman three months to create.

Valued at more than HK$300,000.00, a lot of thought and attention has been given to the creation of the Butani Cup. It weighs 15kgs and is hand sculpted out of pure silver and is dipped in solid 24k gold. The batsman at the top of the trophy has been fashioned to precise detail and is shown to be hitting six cricket balls studded with 60 carats of rubies and 12 carats of diamonds representing the Hong Kong Cricket Sixes. The helmets at the base of the trophy are made out of gold and enamel, and represent the national colors of all the cricket-playing nations.

The Butani Cup is the showpiece of the Hong Kong Cricket Sixes. It will not only raise the prestige and profile of the event, but will also add to excitement and drama of this two-day sporting spectacle.
