A hearing was held at the end of the day's play on the third day of the
Second Test Match between SL and England at the Asgiriya Stadium, Kandy, by the
Match Referee, Mr H. Singh in the presence of:
Mr bandulla Warnapura - on the behalf of the acting CEO of the BCCSL
Mr Rudi Koertzen - Match umpire
Mr B.C. Cooray - Match umpire
Mr Peter Manuel - Match umpire
Air Commodore Ajit Jayasekera - Manager of SL team
Mr Sanath Jayasuriya - SL Captain
Mr Marvan Atapattu - VC SL Captain
With regard to the dissent shown by Sanath Jayasuriya when given out whilst
walking back to the pavilion and before crossing the boundary and being in
full view of the watching general public and the International telecast
viewers.
Having given consideration to the explanation put forward by My Jayasuriya,
I find him guilty of violating ICC players code of conduct numbers Nos. 3, 2
and 1 (in that order) whereby as captain he also carries additional
responsibilities of playing the game in its true spirit. Therefore I issue him
with a suspended sentence of two Test Matches and two ODI's effective from
the end of this Second Test Match and extending for a period of six months.
