Sri Lanka's preparations for the Second Test Match in Kandy have been hit by
an injury scare to Russel Arnold.
The 28-year-old left hander, who occupies the pivotal number six position in
the Sri Lanka batting order, required three stitches last night after
splitting the webbing between the little and second finger of his right hand
during fielding practice.
Arnold remains hopeful that the cut will heal in time for Wednesday,
pointing out that he is still able to grip the bat properly with his right
hand.
The Sri Lankan manager, Ajit Jayasekera, believes Arnold will play: "It is
not a serious injury and we hope that he will be able to bat tomorrow. We
have not called for a replacement at this stage."
The Sri Lankan team left for Kandy early this morning. They will practice
this afternoon and on Tuesday morning.
