KARACHI, Sept 24: Australia will make changes in their team for the
ICC Trophy in Bangladesh and three one-day internationals against
Pakistan, skipper Mark Taylor said on Thursday.
"The changes will be made in the team after the third Test. But at
the moment, we are focusing on the coming three Tests and not worried
about the one-day internationals," he said at the National Stadium.
The Australians leave for Dhaka along with Pakistan on Oct 27 after
the third Test to be played between Oct 22 and 26 at Karachi. The
Aussies return to Pakistan for the second leg of the tour and play
the first one-day international at Karachi on Nov 6, followed up by
matches at Peshawar and Lahore on Nov 8 and 10 respectively.
Australia have different captains for different levels of the game.
While Taylor skippers the Test side, his deputy Steve Waugh leads the
team in the one-day internationals. Australia have been following the
pattern for the last couple of years with mixed results.
In this background, it is expected that Taylor will fly back to
Australia after the third Test and Steve Waugh will take over the
charge.
Taylor didn't hide his displeasure of having different captains.
"Ideally, there should be only one captain for both forms of the game
and that's not we have for the moment.
"But Steve (Waugh) and I make it try to work it fully well. So far,
it has been alright," Taylor said.
England tried to follow Australia and appointed Ben Hollioake as
their one-day captain. He was, however, replaced by Alec Stewart in
the recent triangular series after leading England in the Sharjah Cup
and later on in the West Indies.
