Where the tickets have gone? The pertinent question arose as
two-thirds of the galleries of the Bangabandhu National Stadium
remained vacant during the opening match of the Wills International
Cup between Zimbabwe and New Zealand Saturday.
It was not expected that the stadium will be jam packed during the
match between the two low-ranging teams among the test playing
nations.
But many enthusiastic spectators were found desperate in last several
days for getting a ticket even for Saturday's match and returned home
without having one.
However, frustration of many were over when they found abundant
tickets in black market around the Bangabandhu stadium Saturday
morning.
Hundreds of people also waited until the start of the second innings
as the prices of ticket in black market around the stadium was falling
every minute. Saturday's match was witnessed by more than 15,000
people at the 40,000-capacity stadium.
Eastern gallery tickets of Tk 120 were even sold at Tk 40-50 when the
blackmarketeers realised they had goofed by hoarding tickets of the
opening match between Zimbabwe and New Zealand.
"We will be loser in today's match but hope finally profit will come
in next few days," said a ticket seller in black market, who stocked
several hundred tickets.
