After arriving in Dhaka Tuesday morning for Wills International Cup,
Australian cricket team will impart some expert cricket advice to a
group of children at the Bangabandu National Stadium in the afternoon.
An autographed bat, also to be presented by the team, will greatly
assist fund raising for Save the Children Australia's Bangladesh
Appeal. The appeal was launched on September 7, in response to floods
that ravaged three quarter of Bangladesh and lasted for more than two
months.
National director of Save the Children Australia Wendy Rose said the
contribution of the Australian team and Australian Cricket Board would
mean a great deal both to the children taking part and to the
Bangladeshi people for whom Save the Children is raising emergency
relief fund.
The children to meet the team Tuesday are all from children's clubs
which now have 13,000 members, promotes children's rights, support the
development and growth of children and through activities such as
cricket and Bangladeshi traditional games (Ha-du-do, Daria banda etc)
gives them a chance to enjoy simple childhood experience.
Save the Children Australia's flood response has so far provided
emergency food relief, healthcare to 1,200 families, vegetable seeds
and seedlings to 13,000 families.
