Date-stamped : 25 Dec95 - 22:31 Monday 25, December 1995 Second Test: Warne and Ranatunga to ready to play MELBOURNE, Australia, Sunday (AFP) - Match-winning Australian leg spinner Shane Warne and Sri Lankan captain Arjuna Ranatunga Sun- day confirmed they would be playing in the second cricket test, beginning here on Boxing Day. Warne has been weakened by influenza, while Ranatunga injured his right finger while attempting a catch in Thursday`s World Series limited-overs loss to Australia in Sydney. However the duo, key players in their sides, said Sunday there was no chance they would miss what is generally regarded as the showpiece test of the Australian summer of cricket at the Mel- bourne Cricket Ground. Warne said reports that a virus was threatening an appearance at his home ground were a "little exaggerated.`` "I`ve got a strong bout of the `flu, but that`s it and it won`t stop me from playing in this test match,`` he said. Australia`s maestro spin bowler, who has now over 200 wickets in test cricket, did concede he was not 100 percent fit, but said the fact that the game was at the Melbourne Cricket Ground would help him overcome any slight problems. "I might not be 100 percent on energy, I`m more about 95 percent but the motivation of playing in front of my home crowd in Mel- bourne will make up for that,`` he said. "Nothing is going to stop me playing in this Test match.`` While Warne is treating his influenza, Ranatunga said he had ob- tained some "magic oil from Colombo`` to ensure his injured finger would not prevent him from leading Sri Lanka this week. "It (his finger) looks all right and I put some oil I got from Colombo on it,`` he said. "It`s magic oil``. The 32-year-old Sri Lankan captain, the sole survivor of his country`s inaugural Test team of 1982, said he had previously used the potion with success. "I did the same thing last time I was out here and I put the mag- ic oil on it and I was playing again in five days,`` he said. Ranatunga did not bat during the Sri Lankan`s net session this morning, but will test out his finger in a practice session on Christmas Day. The Australians, 1-0 up in the series, will also round off their preparations with a net session at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Monday.
