Date-stamped : 02 Jan96 - 02:32 IAN PIERIS ON LANKAN ISSUE Former Ceylon`cap` and a former President of the Board of Con- trol for Cricket in Sri Lanka Ian Pieris questioned whether it is not strange for David Richards and Clyde Walcott who took so long to make a statement on ball-tampering to swiftly (within 24 hours) issue a statement regarding the alleged throwing. The former All-Ceylon pace bowler, referring to the incident`s which took place during Sri Lanka`s current three- Test against Aus- tralia, said Sri Lanka are now into the real world of professional sport where anything goes. "If we have ambitions of reaching the very top,then we must expect and be ready for the many obstacles that will inevitably be thrown our way," says Pieris.
