Date-stamped : 20 Dec93 - 13:54 Bangla Desh v Hong Kong, ODI3, Hong Kong Cricket Club, 19 Dec 93 Bangladesh do seem to be a pretty decent side - I was peering through their scorebook, and came across a number of very impres- sive performances. The most recent one of note was in a 50 over game against Tata's at Brabourne Stadium. The Tata's side includ- ed Lalchand Rajput, Vengsarkar, Manjrekar, Dighe, Paranjpe, Joglekar, Prasad, Kuruvilla, Kulkarni and I forget the other two. Not a bad side at all. Bangladesh went down by 30 runs - 160 in reply to Tata's 190. Only Manjrekar, Dighe, and Pranjpe were able to score significant amounts, and Kuruvilla failed to pick up a single wicket. Bangladesh were well and truly a class above Hong Kong (as if that means anything..) and this was reflected in their absolute dominance of the series. Hong Kong's fielding was mediocre, the batting not up to the task, and the bowling simply not good enough to seriously trouble the Bangladeshi's. The wicket was quite poor, and it was only for this reason that Bangladesh lost as many wickets as they did. The inclusion of Justin Strahcan in the Hong Kong squad seems to be a joke. As I said before, I have never seen him play, and after having watched him bowl some slow-medium rubbish, it is amazing that HK can't find anything better. Akram Khan seems a useful batsman for Ban- gladesh - in 4 innings here he scored 28*, 82*, 38* and 43*. Not bad at all. Their spinner, Enamul Haq Moni returned impres- sive figures in all the games, and while he is no doubt fairly good, I suspect he was flattered somewhat by incompetent Hong Kong batting. Mohinder Amarnath kept a pretty low profile at the game - and I didn't get a chance to speak to him properly. He was looking pretty fit though, and is obviously taking a keen interest in his coaching job - I've never seen anyone look that tense when his team was cruising to victory.
